Artist statement
I aim to create works that are both visually and emotionally impactful. I pair storytelling with bold, simplistic design to create groups of prints—collections—that accomplish this.
Artist bio
Alara Bulur is a self-taught artist based in Toronto,
Canada. She specializes in relief printmaking and has
been producing work in this medium since 2024.
Alara was first introduced to printmaking through a fine
arts elective at the University of Waterloo, where she
majored in Computer Science. After graduating in 2025,
she decided to pursue art full-time, and has since put
her degree to good use by building this website from
scratch.
On craftsmanship
Each print within an edition is a bit different. Small
flaws and imperfections (variations in texture, colour,
etc.) that appear during the printmaking process are
welcome reminders that each work is made by a person,
not a machine.
Please also note that:
- All works are 8x10 in (15x20 cm).
- All works are hand-carved.
- All works are hand-pressed.
