FEATURED WORKS

43 prints. One story.

August 2024 — December 2025

Inspired by family photographs dating back to 1970s Turkey, Prologue explores the concept of memory. Through this collection, the artist confronts the divide between her present life and the youth of her immigrant parents. Their past took place decades prior, in another country, and is a period of time she can never fully access or understand. That distance is bridged only by the photographs, now turned prints, that offer brief, partial glimpses into who they once were.

A garden in dramatic lighting.

May 2025—June 2025

Art doesn't always have to have meaning. Sometimes aesthetics are enough. And what Botanicals lacks in substance, it makes up for in aesthetic.

This collection uses vibrant colour and sharp contrast to create unforgettable images of flowers one might find in their backyard. From dandelions to roses, the works in Botanicals illustrate the unique beauty of their subjects in a bold yet cohesive way, bringing each flower to life and the collection all together.

What's a stranger if not a subject?

October 2025

Portraits is a collection of prints that celebrates both humanity and individuality. With subjects sourced from the backgrounds of images in the artist's camera roll, this collection shifts our attention toward strangers who, like those we unintentionally capture as they dart in and out of frame, enter and leave our daily lives unnoticed. The collection reflects on the idea that each of these individuals leads a life as full and complex as our own, shaped by experiences we will never see. Everyone exists at the center of their own world, though they may only occupy the margins of ours.

In depicting these strangers, Bulur gives them presence, grounding them in their humanity and inviting the viewer to truly see them. The artist further reinforces this presence by giving each stranger a name—an identity that previously went unacknowledged.

Intimacy simplified.

November 2025

An evening of haphazard doodling resulted in this series of prints exploring the visuals of sex, love, and intimacy. With basic compositions and a limited colour palette, Verbs of Sex demonstrates how effective design can convey so much with so little.

Misfits, rejects, and nonconformists.

May 2025—present

The home of all prints created as stand-alone works of art, experiments, or that didn't make the cut for the collection they were meant to be a part of.

MORE

Alara Bulur pairs storytelling with bold, simplistic design to create works that are both visually and emotionally engaging. Through groups of prints, she explores different visual identities and meanings while experimenting with her personal style.

Alara Bulur is an artist based in Toronto, Canada. She specializes in relief printmaking and has been producing work in this medium since 2024.

Alara was first introduced to printmaking through a fine arts elective at the University of Waterloo, where she majored in Computer Science. After deciding to pursue art full-time in 2025, she's since put her degree to good use by building this website from scratch.

Original, limited edition linocut prints.

Each print within a series is a bit different. Small flaws and imperfections (variations in texture, colour, etc.) that appear during the printmaking process are welcome reminders that each work is made by a person, not a machine.

Please also note that:

  • All works are 8x10 in (15x20 cm).
  • All works are hand-carved.
  • All works are hand-pressed.
